Identifying  Adware,  Spyware  And  Computer Virus

Adware, Spyware and Computer virus pose a serious threats to the  Internet world where  the dangers are inherent and many people who have no idea of the evils that exist  are exposing themselves to grave risks. There are tracks left in the computers which can be viewed by others who knew how to. Spyware can infiltrate and encroach on  registry files in your  PC and compromise your personnal privacy.   Every Internet user should be aware of these potential security threats. Everybody should have a clear idea about  what they are and the basic differences between them.

There are some similarities between an adware, a spyware and a computer virus. One similarity is that all are a cause of major nuisances to computer users. They are  intruders which can insert itself and steal the information (spyware and adware) and wreck your computer (Computer virus). But what are the other differences between them?

Spyware is tracking software that may not intentionally  harm your computer. It simply relay information from your computer to advertisers and other interested parties via the communication path it establishes between your system and the third party. All these take place somewhat surreptitiously.

Spywares are geared with specialized components which are nothing but executable programs that can record  keystrokes, scan your hard drive, monitor your applications. The web advertisers use spyware to record various websites a browser visit, which are later used  to send you a bombardment of e-mails and pop ups. Pop-ups sometimes appear with pornographic content. Spywares also open backdoors in your computer that provide covert access to your personal information relating to credit card  and other sensitive data.

How would you know if a spyware has intruded your computer since they are not invisible? There are some tell-tale signs which indicate the presence of spyware(s) in your system.
These are the signs of a possible spyware infection:
  •    Pop ups irrelevant to the site you are viewing.
  •    Pornographic pop ups.
  •    Drastic decrease in system’s performances.
  •    The system take a long time to load windows desktops.
When these symptoms are detected, it is better to scan the whole system for  spyware infection. Spywares are bundled with some freeware programs and enter your system when you download them.

Adware or advertisement-supported software is any software package which automatically displays advertisements to a computer. Some adware covertly download advertising contents on running particular applications thereby initiating drive-by downloads. Adware programs often take the form of spywares and relay information from user’s system.

Like spyware, adware programs are integrated with the free applications and are used by companies to advertise their products. Most of the time, to get rid of the adware program, a license can be bought to remove the advertisement permanently.

While spyware is illegitimate, adware is a 'legitimate' intruder. It is an advertising program or software that loads automatically when a web page is opened.

The pop-up windows or bars that appear on your computer screen are nothing but some adware program sitting in your computer.

Viruses are highly destructive programs that corrupt data, degrade computer performance, and cause many other problems. Though each computer virus is written for a sole purpose, all the viruses have a solitary goal – to replicate and to destroy. In order to replicate itself, a virus should have permissions to execute code and write to memory. For this reason, many viruses attach themselves to legitimate executable programs. Thus, when run the infected program, the virus code gets executed along side. Virus programs spread themselves as e-mail attachments too.

There are a wide variety of advanced spyware, adware and anti virus removal programs available in the market. Having an anti virus or anti spyware dedicated scanner will help you identify the spyware and virus infecting  your PC. In addition, they also remove them as well as their components which are located in the system registry of your computer. Hence it is good to update you security software regularly to ensure the protection of your computer against thousands of spywares and viruses lurking in the Internet and set up a firewall to  to keep the security of your computer in check.
